Carving It Up Again

IMG_1938

Last night I finally got my Linocut on.

I’ve been itching to do this since freaking November when I started this body of ink sketches. And OhMyGosh — I totally forgot how much I love carving. I woke up this morning and literally squealed before getting out of bed knowing my linocut was waiting for me.

You see, when I was in college I did this large body of linocut prints that took me a whole year to create.  They were called “meditations”. That’s when my love affair with carving began.

Then, right after school, I created pottery for years (that’s where Dirty Footprints Studio got its name actually). My thing was creating large thrown pots that I would carve very intricate designs on them — using linocut tools. It was all about the carving — I hate to say it, but I was a terrible thrower!

I stepped away from pottery 10 years ago and sadly haven’t touched clay or carving ever since.

It wasn’t until I went to Oaxaca in 2017 to teach my first Paint FEARLESS Mexico retreat that seeing all the woodcut prints and posters everywhere stirred up my repressed feeling to carve again.

Yes. It took me a year. But I’m back baby and there’s no saying what will happen now!!
